Travis Perkins Managed Services kicked off their #loveyourcommunity social value campaign by volunteering 150 hours to a Stockton Horticulture Centre and Community Garden in partnership with Thirteen Group. As businesses that help the community, we were excited to support this project with our ‘Community Engagement Fund’.

Forty employees from the Managed Services team came together from across the UK to support the Billingham Environmental Link community investment project. Volunteers took part in a variety of activities including: digging, weeding and assembling flower boxes. Each one of the volunteers enjoyed giving back to the community by helping with the Environmental Link social value initiative.

Kevin Pitt, Strategic Manager at Billingham Environmental Link Programme Limited, had this to say about the contribution of Travis Perkins Managed Services volunteers: “It was a pleasure to meet with everyone and the work undertaken is really appreciated. It’s hard to express in a few words the magnitude of the help that was given across the whole site within the School Garden, the Horticulture Centre, and the Community Garden from the building of 11 growing boxes, moving 10 tonnes of soil, cleaning the Community classroom, Labyrinth, paths, growing boxes and moving fencing to allow development work. The work undertaken was fantastic and has helped the volunteers who work on the site immensely, putting us in a strong position going forward. What did come across very naturally was the lovely esprit de Corp within the group which obviously reflects the Travis Perkins style. Our sincere thanks and appreciation to everyone involved on site and in the background arrangements”.

Dave Connor, Neighbourhood Team Leader at Thirteen, said: “When Travis Perkins Managed Services mentioned they would like to help a local project, we put them in touch with the Billingham Environmental Link Project and the event grew from there. It was fantastic to see Travis Perkins Managed Services volunteers from all corners of the country help out in one of our communities. The work done by the volunteers has transformed parts of the site and will have an impact on users and visitors to the community allotment project for years to come”.

Stuart Hough, Managing Director at Travis Perkins Managed Services, had this to say on the project: “We understand the value of the project upon the community and are extremely proud to have the opportunity to volunteer our time to help. I am certain the finished product will add value to the local community, inviting people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved. We hope our contribution will help the Billingham Environmental Link Project to achieve their goals, and the end product is there for the community to appreciate for many years to come”.
