As part of our ongoing social value commitment with Lambeth Council, Travis Perkins Managed Services (TPMS) is dedicated to investing in our local communities. A key part of this commitment is volunteering our time and resources to enhance local estates, contributing to a greener, more resilient borough for residents.
The Initiative: Lambeth Estate Action Day
In collaboration with Lambeth Council, Toby Duncan, TPMS Customer Operations Manager, recently volunteered to take part in an Estate Action Day at the St Matthew’s Estate. This event brought colleagues together to support the creation of new rain gardens, a vital component of a wider Sustainable Urban Drainage System (SuDS) being established on the estate. By mimicking natural drainage processes, SuDS help to reduce flooding, improve water quality, and enhance the local environment and biodiversity.
Equipped with gloves, hi-vis, and sturdy boots, the volunteers got straight to work on the pre- landscaped areas. Key tasks involved clearing existing foliage and weeds and meticulously planting new, specially selected plants and bulbs. This immersive approach provided a practical way to support the council’s green initiatives.
A Successful Outcome
The day was a huge success, providing TPMS the opportunity to deliver tangible benefits that will directly support Lambeth Council’s key sustainability goals.
The new rain gardens will flourish to become an attractive and biodiverse space for residents to enjoy, while also playing a critical role in local flood prevention. The event demonstrated TPMS’s hands-on social value commitment by improving the local environment and supporting council partners.
“It was incredibly rewarding to contribute to this environmental social value project. My family is originally from Lambeth, so giving back to the community felt really important. It was a fun day all around.”
