Discover the latest social value story from supply chain and procurement solutions provider Travis Perkins Managed services. TPMS part funded and provided volunteers for a motivational programme called Inspiring Dreams, that aims to support Magenta Living tenants by helping them develop the skills and knowledge to take the next step in their lives.
Magenta Living is a not-for-profit social housing provider, owning and managing nearly 13,000 properties. Their vision is to provide homes and build communities where all can thrive, and the Inspiring Dreams course remains a vital step towards this.
The course was developed by Wirral based 3D Training in collaboration with Magenta Living, to create a unique and effective way of learning. Over the course of eight days, attendees created a personal development plan, practiced CV writing and interview techniques, and took part in fitness and team building exercises with Underground Training Station. They learnt about healthy lifestyles and wellbeing, as well as benefitted from motivation and communication techniques.
Maggie Devine, Social Value Manager at Travis Perkins Managed Services said: “Managed Services are committed to making a real difference to local communities and our valued partnership with Magenta Living allows us to work collaboratively to change lives.
“We understand that sometimes it is difficult to motivate yourself to find employment when you lack self- confidence, so we were delighted to be involved with the Inspiring Dreams programme.”
Heather, Inspiring Dreams attendee said: “After moving back to the Wirral from London, I needed to make friends and find work, so I signed up for Inspiring Dreams. The course was so supportive, and it gave me enough confidence to find a part time job and I’m also now volunteering with a craft group.”
“Thanks to Inspiring Dreams, I now have more structure and routine in my life and I’m looking forward to following my dream of becoming an art therapist.”
At the end of the course, participants received a certificate as well as a £40 Asda voucher, along with the skills and confidence to allow them to make the necessary changes in their life. So far there have been 22 participants on the course, of which seven are now successfully in work whilst others are doing work experience or have gone on to do further training.
The success of the programme has inspired Magenta Living to put on another four courses throughout 2018 with the first one starting in February.
Sally Ross, Community Engagement Lead Officer at Magenta Living said: “I’m really proud of Inspiring Dreams and all the participants that have completed the course. The 22 participants during 2017 have made a real difference to their health, wellbeing and employability and I can’t wait to see more successes in 2018.”
