Travis Perkins Managed Services, in partnership with Taff Housing Association, has significantly enhanced support for mothers and young children in Cardiff through the creation of a new sensory room. This initiative, overseen by Molly Harris, Social Housing Account Manager for Travis Perkins Managed Services, provided crucial funding and materials to transform a former playroom into a sensory space. This vibrant and nurturing space offers a warm and safe environment for mothers to connect and support each other, while also providing an engaging area for babies and young children to play and develop.
The residents expressed immense gratitude for the donation, noting that the transformed space has become the heart of the accommodation. Both residents and professionals have praised its calming and inviting atmosphere. Feedback from the midwife and the agency, which runs stay-and-play sessions, underscored the benefits of the room’s gentle palette and tactile elements, leading to improved children’s behaviour and an increase in mothers’ participation in the play.
Furthermore, the space now allows mothers to enjoy well-being time alone in the evenings, utilising donated baby monitors and projector night lights, which has positively impacted routines and well-being.
Building on this success, Taff Housing has since installed new doors, allowing the room to open onto an outside patio. There are plans to utilise remaining funds to paint this outdoor space and furnish it with robust outdoor furniture. This project truly exemplifies Travis Perkins Managed Services’ commitment to social value and community support.
“Thank you so much for believing in us as a project and truly seeing the incredible work the staff team do and being a part of the movement for physiologically informed environments created safety and security.”
