Sunnyside Rural Trust is the winner of the £5,000 grand prize from the Travis Perkins Managed Services Community Competition. Travis Perkins Managed Services provide supply chain solutions and support social value initiatives. We recently caught up with them to find out how they plan to use the prize money to expand and open a community garden café.

The Travis Perkins Managed Services Community Competition helps in giving back to the community by funding worthwhile community engagement projects.

Since the launch of the charity, Sunnyside Rural Trust have grown from strength to strength but struggled to find the funds to update the dining area and café, which was in dire need of some TLC. With the winnings from TPMS, they intend to get new lighting, flooring and double doors which open onto the herb garden, as well as an awning and children’s play area. As a business that helps the community, this social value project was exactly the kind of initiative we love being a part of.

These new developments will help to draw in new customers and enable Sunnyside to offer more opportunities to young people in the care system and elsewhere. Community investment projects like this help by motivating local young people in the area. Their aim is to support 25 young people each year by providing training and employment opportunities within the café so that they build the confidence and skills to go out in the local community and get jobs elsewhere.
