As part of our ongoing social value commitment with ClwydAlyn Housing, we support work placements to help young adults facing employment barriers gain the crucial skills, experience, and confidence needed for a career in our industry.

Supporting employment through partnership

TPMS collaborated with our customer ClwydAlyn and DFN Project SEARCH, a national charity that enables young adults who have a learning disability or autism spectrum condition to secure meaningful permanent employment. Through this partnership, we recently facilitated a 12- week work placement for a participant, Alex, at the Travis Perkins Queensferry branch. This placement offered Alex the opportunity to gain in-depth, practical experience in a busy branch environment.

Throughout the programme, Alex was trained in key operational tasks, including stock management and customer service. The placement proved highly successful, with Alex becoming an integral and valued member of the branch team, directly contributing to improvements in branch standards and organisation. This initiative not only boosted Alex’s confidence and employability within a supportive environment but also proved to be a successful model for enhancing career readiness through community partnership.

“Alex has very quickly become a valuable asset to my team. He understands every task we give him, and the shop is the best it’s ever looked. He’s a credit to himself and the team, and the positive impact he’s had on the branch is clear to everyone.”

James Lee, Branch Manager, TP Queensferry Branch

“I didn’t realise how much I was learning at first. When we sat down and went through it all – things like stock management, price changes, and even safety reporting – I was taken aback. I was so proud when I served my first customer; it was a great feeling.”
