As a business that values giving back to the community, Travis Perkins Managed Services was proud to support our latest community engagement project. This social value campaign aimed to give women the skills to be successful in a trade environment. Following the success of our Women in Trades taster day in South Gloucestershire, Travis Perkins Managed Services, worked with Sovereign to expand this community investment project to offer two-week trade work experience placements.

Over the course of the social value placement, six women renovated one of Sovereign’s empty homes in Bristol, supported by multi-skilled trades operatives. In addition to work such as removing an existing kitchen and fitting a new one – including all associated plumbing and tiling; replacing bath taps and panels; building concrete steps and fitting internal doors the placement also included full health and safety and discussions around Sovereign’s behaviours and professional standards. Sovereign’s Resident Involvement team and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College also came along to talk about taking the next steps into the trades industry.

“I found the project very rewarding, and it helped give the women an insight to what it’s like to do various trade related works. They were extremely enthusiastic, very willing to learn and undertook all tasks given to them. The operatives who supported them all have high levels of technical capability, so it was a great opportunity for them to train with them. Hopefully the women will have a new passion for trades work, and they’ll continue to build on and develop their skills.” – Rowan Norman, Lead Technician
