At the end of what can only be described as a very challenging year, BD Group and Barking and Dagenham council have worked with partners to bring a smile to the residents of the borough and provide extra support to those in need.
Over the last few weeks, the team have been kept very busy packing and distributing over 2,600 food hampers to children who receive Free School Meals across Barking and Dagenham. Schools were given the choice of food hampers or vouchers to give to their pupils. Festive recipe booklets and craft kits or food vouchers are included in the hampers
Travis Perkins Managed Services, repairs and maintenance supply chain partner for Barking and Dagenham, provided a van and driver to help ensure all the hampers were delivered to schools in time for the Christmas holidays.
Tony Barry, Chief Executive of BD Group, commented, “As we come to the end of what has been a challenging year for everyone, it is heart-warming to see the community coming together to bring some much needed joy to Barking and Dagenham and to give extra help to those in need. We welcome the extension of free school meals to cover the Christmas holidays and are delighted that at BD Group we have been able to play our part in helping children receive these meals, and not just to those we cater for during term time. I would like to thank everyone who has kindly donated food, gifts or their time to make this Christmas Cheer campaign a success.”
