During these challenging times, we are immensely proud to work with partners who are going above and beyond to help vulnerable people. One shining example is that of Yorkshire Housing (YH), who have established a Covid-19 Response Project, supplying emergency food into the community and providing other emergency support services required by residents.
In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, the YH Independence Team were particularly concerned about older and/or disabled tenants, who are self-isolating and may have no support network to help with getting essential provisions.
Travis Perkins Managed Services donated £20,000 towards setting up community stores in both community centres and sheltered housing schemes across the YH housing stock. This ensures that essential provisions are available to vulnerable residents within their locality, without the requirement to travel and risk exposure. Furthermore, the funding has supported the provision of cooked meals delivered to local people who are self-isolating and unable to cook for themselves in their homes.
In addition to setting up community stores, colleagues from across YH are volunteering to make welfare calls to vulnerable residents at risk of loneliness, supporting those who cannot access the internet with online shopping, delivering food and essentials in the community, and providing any other emergency support when required.
The project has responded quickly to the needs of local people living through this crisis, and we are very happy to be able to provide financial support to enable the project to succeed.
