Travis Perkins Managed Services (TPMS) recently provided funding to Thrive, a programme created by Cheltenham Borough Homes (CBH) to help improve the futures of six young people from the local community.
In 2017 a local secondary school contacted CBH looking for long term work experience for students who were disruptive and struggling within the traditional classroom setting. In response to this CBH created Thrive, a new programme aimed at young people providing support to stay in education while learning in a way that works for them. Due to the success of this programme we are currently running our second programme.
Young people attend Thrive every Friday instead of their usual schools. For the first six weeks of the programme they study a variety of topics including employability skills, future planning and budgeting. After this they go onto 11 weeks work experience with Travis Perkins and various other local contractors.
Through the funding TPMS provided, CBH were able to provide bus passes, breakfast and lunch at each session and PPE for each student to use on their placements. It also helped cover the cost of ASDAN certification, meaning every student was able to gain an academic qualification for their CVs. This funding also enabled them to plan a graduation ceremony to celebrate the young people’s successful completion of the Thrive Programme.
The Employment Initiatives Team at Cheltenham Borough Homes said:
“Travis Perkins Managed Services have made an enormous impact on our ability to help some of the most vulnerable young people in Cheltenham. We would like to take the opportunity to thank everyone at TPMS, both for helping to fund the programme as well as for allowing our students to gain experience and knowledge during their placement. We would never be able to run a programme like this without all of our fantastic partners, but by working together we can all thrive!”
