Travis Perkins Managed Services, supply chain solution providers, are working in partnership with Islington Council to boost youth employment in the Borough by offering young people work. At Travis Perkins Managed Services we are committed to being a business that helps the community. We aim to give back to the community by funding social value projects like this one.

Travis Perkins Managed Services have agreed employment for three young people to join Travis Perkins stores as part of the council’s ‘Saturday Jobs’ community engagement scheme. The aim is to provide the new recruits valuable workplace experience, where they will participate in roles involving customer service and stock replenishment. The paid placements last twelve weeks and can help improve employability prospects once they are finished in education. Community investment initiatives like this are important in providing young people with important workplace skills that they will need throughout their career.

Islington Council’s executive member for economic development, Cllr Asima Shaikh, said: “We owe it to our young people to give them the help they need to get the careers they deserve and helping to provide weekend work is a pivotal part of these efforts. Thank you to all our local employers taking part in the scheme.”

Maggie Devine, Social Value Manager, Travis Perkins Managed Services had this to say: “We are delighted to be able to offer this opportunity to three young individuals to help their continued development into employment. We hope the teenagers are able to develop their existing skill set when working in branch, in addition to learning what the working environment entails. We wish the three of them the best of luck!”
